QEI Testing and Other Electronic Testing of Existing Elevator and Escalator Systems

J.R.F. Visions is one of the first consultants in North America to have training and access to the latest state-of-the-art electronic testing equipment for elevators and escalators.  Codes are constantly changing and evolving, which means that equipment to do testing and evaluation of equipment is evolving as well.

Sophisticated electronic equipment available to the industry now means that complete reports with actual data (measurements and test results) can be collected and stored for your vertical transportation equipment.   Data documents equipment performance at key and required points in time.   The North American Code is beginning to demand Maintenance Control Plans and supporting reports and evidence of compliance.   Electronic testing and generation of reports supports that growing requirement. JRF is able to do the following testing (whether QEI Testing required or for improving equipment performance):

  • Category 5 Testing (defined by Code) with Electronic Testing equipment (Henning ELVI 2) where the need to use weight carts is ultimately eliminated (saving wear and tear on elevator equipment and your building and facilities). An anticipated change in Category 1 (Annual) Testing of elevator machine brakes utilizes the same equipment.
  • Electronically Measuring loads (masses) of installed elevator equipment. Minimize and potentially eliminate the need to physically suspend elevator equipment in order to determine current weights.   This is a regular requirement whenever modifications are needed or modernizations are being considered.
  • Electronically equalizing loads on elevator suspension means – not only a new code requirement but also contributes to improved elevator component life (saving maintenance and wear of key elevator components and improving overall system safety and ride quality).
  • Sophisticated measurements of ride quality to ultimately determine (and correct) causes of poor ride quality and system vibrations in elevators and escalators.

Due Diligence

According to your geographic location, there are different codes and regulations governing testing and maintenance of your vertical transportation systems. J.R.F. Visions has the knowledge and experience needed to interpret these codes and witness all needed and required elevator inspection tests that must be performed by a qualified provider. I am able to witness tests on behalf of the owner or property manager, or I can be employed directly by the elevator contractor. In any situation, my presence on site will ensure absolute code compliance for all tested systems.

Consulting

When it comes to the kind of detailed analysis of elevator and escalator systems required to prepare specifications and bid documents for maintenance, repair, installation or modernization of elevator and escalator systems, my expertise and dedication will serve you and your firm perfectly. In addition to specification preparation, you may find it helpful to engage me to serve as project manager for the duration of your chosen elevator contractor’s work. My reliable oversight will help to ensure absolute contract compliance for you, the building manager, or property owner.

Key Benefits:

  • My detailed specifications are designed to yield performance and provide the best value to you.
  • You will be comfortable and confident, knowing that all your contracted elevator and escalator systems will comply with even the most stringent applicable local, state and national codes.
  • You expect and deserve the highest level of workmanship from your elevator contractor. The equipment you buy should be

operating at its designed and peak efficiency; fully satisfying not just the letter of, but also, the intent of the specifications and contract documents.

Litigation Support

A skilled elevator consultant’s litigation support allows an attorney to focus on the primary aspects of a given case. If you are working on a case where the operation, or failed operation, of elevator or escalator systems, is a critical component, then you need me on your side. The process of engaging a consultant in litigation support begins with an attorney providing the specifics of the case filed (or about to be filed). Using that preliminary data as a starting point, it’s my job to help identify mechanical or service failures in detail so the litigant can focus on precedents or previous legal actions relevant to the case, as well as researching the status of current laws and related regulations. Documenting details surrounding the case and providing that detail to the attorney can make a huge difference in how the legal team may choose to present the case in court. When an expert is needed for a case involving elevators or escalators, I am ready and available to provide the necessary inspections, evaluations and expert testimony required.
